    MG5 & MG6 in Colorado

Post by Windy on Fri Oct 25, 2013 2:34 am

Spotted: Why is this MG testing in Colorado?

We’re not too familiar with MG the British automaker that’s now owned by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), but we defiantly caught a few MG5 and, possibly an MG6, testing in Colorado. Is this a hint at a possible return? Is a local automaker looking to partner-up with MG? Why come all the way over to the USA for automotive testing?

Here’s an excerpt from our own MG database regarding their past and current ownership: “MG stopped selling cars in the United States in the early 1980s, but their popularity here is still strong. As such, I have kept an eye on their constant changes in ownership and their products. I even visited their display at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show and got the impression they were anxious to get back into the United Kingdom, and perhaps the United States.

MG (Morris Garages) was founded by Cecil Kimber in 1924. The company exchanged hands multiple times before being sold off to Nanjing Automobile in 2006. Shortly thereafter, Nanjing Automobile and MG Motor became a subsidiary of the China-based Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in 2007.”

Everyone at The Fast Lane Car is mighty curious about this one.

Check out the MG spy video

The Chinese guy didn't do a lot of hiding!

Where is the SAIC US office? Nowhere near Colorado is it? And the video says 'European prototype' - there is nothing particularly European to look at; it seems the same as the Chinese ones so maybe the Chinese driver told them that?

P.S. why hide the front badge but not the rear one...?

It's in Birmigham, a nice looking drive of 1,300 miles...

Video does say high altitude testing which you could not do in Birmingham which I think is very flat.

How far is it to Ardmore? About 750 miles from Ardmore to Denver, though the Ardmore idea is dead...
