    MG6/ZERO MPH.

Post by Steven211 on Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:35 am

Been to the MPH show today and and the MG6 is very impressive, the build quality matches Ford and vauxhall and in some areas betters them like the storage spaces. It has nice plastics which feel great and well screwed together, it is light and modern with allot of equipment even on the basic car. The seats are so comfortable in leather and cloth trim and they have octagon shaped seats which are very supportive. There are some cheap plastics in less obvious places but it is enough and I mean enough, it matches Ford and Vauxhall products and that is the best place to aim for quality.

The driving position is spot on and all the switches are in easy reach and have a nice feel to them, I am surprised how well specced the basic trim is as it has all round electric windows, air con, RDS, CD, MP3, USB and Aux-in capability and has plenty of airbags. Equip a Focus or Astra to the same spec and I think they would cost more. The doors shut with a reassuring thunk and it has lots of leg room and boot space, I asked what class it is in and it is in the Focus class and the handling has been set up to drive better then a Focus ST but still be comfortable and there will be options like tow bar and I think body modifications.

Regarding the engine, I asked the engineer who I talked to and he said it is reliable and has been tested in many conditions in a lab, it doesn't have much in common with the old K-series according to him and in the brochure it says it is 1.8 160BHP turbo TCI-Tech engine. We will have to wait another 12 months for the diesel according to the engineer, he said the only petrol available will be the 1.8T which worries me to be honest, but maybe he didn't understand my question.

The MG ZERO is absolutely stunning, I have never seen a car like it, the lights are amazing and it has whats called a floating center console which means when you move the seat back, the controls move back which is clever, it probably will get toned down due to cost etc but I love it, there was allot of more question I would of asked the staff but they were very busy and getting allot of interest from people. Overall both models are fantastic and the MG6 looks to be a bargain for the equipment you get and the quality, the staff were very polite, friendly and professional and answer questions that you ask, obviously there are some questions they might not be able to answer but I didn't ask much. These cars definitely deserve to wear the MG badge whatever anyone says, they are great cars and I hope they are successful.

Great pics/review Steven - well done.

How did the size of the 6 feel versus a focus which so many compare it to?

Thanks, its bigger then the focus, lots more leg room and boot space and better equipped for its price, it smaller then a Mondeo but the engineer said it is Focus size.

    Thanks for the review Smile

Can you say what it is about the MG6 that makes it "definitely deserve to wear the MG badge"?

I thought exactly the same when I had a ride in one but was never sure why, it is certanly different to my own MG.

No probs, I think it is the style, the pricing and according to Autocar the driving, it felt special sitting in it.

Sitting in a Focus is like sitting in a black hole, they are so dull but the MG feels fresh and new.

Maybe a modern, bigger 5 door version of the Rover 220 coupe? But obviously an MG rather than a Rover.

Funny enough the more I see the MG6 the more it reminds me of the Rover SD1.. even the dashboard is like a modern progression of the SD1's

The MG6 continues to grow on me..

Yes Pete similar opinion here...it has been a grow to love rather than love at first sight.

It looks a very practical and beautiful car. I look forward to test driving one next year.
