Experience using SAP and other recognised ERP system
Strong Microsoft skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Previous work experience in a similar role is essential

PowerPoint??? this seems a relatively junior position, why?

how about a 26-slide presentation about SAP and other recognised ERP system?

MG reveals UK-designed ZERO concept car

Post by richardk on Fri Apr 23, 2010 12:20 pm

    http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/news-events/news/mg-reveals-uk-designed-zero-concept-car/

MG reveals UK-designed ZERO concept car

    23.04.10

The MG ZERO concept car has been unveiled to the world’s media today as one of the stars of the Beijing Automotive Show, now one of the world’s most important automotive events.
The MG ZERO Concept car has been developed by MG Global Design team, led by British MG Design Director Anthony (Tony) Williams-Kenny, based in Birmingham.
At around 4m in length, the MG ZERO concept previews the design direction of the brand and demonstrates how MG can expand into this high- volume sector of the market. MG ZERO reflects the latest trends in the market for vehicle size, styling and technology and is designed to show how MG will offer products that will appeal to a wide audience across the global market.
MG Zero also demonstrates the design and engineering capabilities of SAIC by showcasing a number of innovative features. The bold interior has clean and simple lines with high contrast flashes of accent colour. It uses the latest technology touch screens to allow occupants to interact with the world around them and features a striking ‘floating console’ design around the driver.
The high-tech materials are draw inspiration from ultra high-performance sports equipment and there is highly innovative use of interior lighting features to create real emotion in the cabin. The bold red-coloured illumination adds a touch of drama.
Commenting on the exterior style, Design Director Tony Williams said “ This concept shows a bold, individual soul. The bonnet is formed around the famous octagonal badge, the graphics flow into striking lamps and the large lower grille completes the confident, sporty character. The body-side has a strong shoulder, a dynamic scalloped feature in the doors and flared arches to give a wide stance and strong road presence. The feature lines have been designed to give a strong relationship to the wheel arch demonstrating the fun nature of the cars dynamics.”
MG ZERO also explores the integration of the latest communications technology in the vehicle and in addition to the interior systems, it features a fun communications system on the exterior of the rear!
Guy Jones, MG Motor UK Sales and Marketing Director summarised by saying “MG Zero is crucial to the development of the brand globally, as it gives clear direction for the future beyond the current products. We are all proud to see our British-designed vehicle wearing the MG badge creating such an impact in Beijing. With the MG TF back in production in Birmingham, sales increasing and the MG6 coming at the end of the year, the MG ZERO has come at the perfect time to build further awareness and interest in the brand here in the UK.”

    MG Birmingham Road Name Announcement

Post by richardk on Wed May 12, 2010 11:20 am

    http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/news-events/news/mg-birmingham-road-name-announcement/

    MG Birmingham Road Name Announcement

    11.05.10

MG Motor recently launched an initiative asking MG fans everywhere to play a part in the ongoing regeneration of the MG facility in Birmingham.
With massive investment being made in the design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities on the site, the future has never been more exciting and to mark this next chapter in the MG story, we have chosen to rename the site MG Birmingham, formally bringing together this iconic brand with the globally recognised 2nd City of the United Kingdom, which MG has called home for over twenty years.
As we focus on the future, we want to celebrate the heritage attached to both the MG brand and this historic site and as such we asked MG fans everywhere to give us their suggestions for naming the internal roads at MG Birmingham. We were delighted by the response with ideas coming in from MG supporters from all over the world.
MG Motor Sales & Marketing Director Guy Jones said "The response from MG fans has been fantastic with hundreds of interesting suggestions being made, we are very lucky to have so many people who obviously care about the brand and gave a great deal of thought to producing so many intriguing ideas" Guy went on to say "This obviously gave us a nice problem, whittling down the names for a short list but after much debate we have arrived at the final five and work has already begun to produce the signs to be erected here at MG Birmingham."
The five road names that will shortly appear at MG Birmingham are:
    - Abingdon Avenue

    - Morris Garages Drive

    - Octagon Way

    - Austin Street

    - Issigonis Road

In view of the prominent association between the selected road names and the brand and site, a number of variations on each of these themes was received however, MG Motor are delighted to confirm that we have invited each MG fan who was the first to suggest each of the chosen names to an unveiling at MG Birmingham, which will be held shortly. Our congratulations go to Chris O'Leary, Jamie Henderson, David Knowles and Ian Merriman (MG are currently still trying to reach the sender of one of the selections) and our thanks again to the hundreds of others who took the time to contact us with their views.

    .
    Notes:
Abingdon Avenue - named after the first dedicated MG factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. This facility closed in 1980
Morris Garages Drive - Cecil Kimber, founder of MG, was working as General Manager at Morris Garages, Cowley in Oxford, when he developed the concept of the MG and took the name as a nod to Lord Nuffield who allowed him to develop his idea and give birth to an icon.
Octagon Way - Past, present and future - the Octagon badge has always been the instantly recognisible sign of MG
Austin Street - Recognising the heritage of the motor industry on this site and the man who started it all.
Issigonis Road - the creator the the original Birmingham built Mini and several innovations that still appear in MG vehicles today Cecil Kimber – the founder of MG, is already remembered at MG Birmingham with the dealer training college named in his honour.

New MG6 at Goodwood Festival of Speed

    19.05.10

Goodwood Festival of Speed’s famous hill run will be the venue
for an exclusive preview of the exciting new MG6 sports fastback. The
new 1.8-litre turbocharged five-door will be built by MG Motor UK at
the MG Birmingham plant and is due to be officially launched later this
year. But visitors to the prestigious Goodwood festival in July
will be among the first people in Britain to see the new car. And some
invited guests will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and
drive the MG6 on a special three-mile course, incorporating the famous
hill run, at Goodwood House in West Sussex. This year, for the
first time, the festival will stage an additional day called the Moving
Motor Show on July 1 when some guests will be invited to drive the
course. The sight of an MG at Goodwood will bring back happy
memories for Lord March, the man behind the revival of Goodwood as a key
motoring venue in the UK. He said: “My grandfather, Freddie
March, used to race MGs and it will be fantastic to see an all-new MG
back on our roads. It will mark another historic link between Goodwood
and one of the world’s most iconic brands.” MG Motor UK currently
builds the MG TF two-seater sports car,
    sold through 41 MG dealerships
and costs £13, 799 on the road. The MG6 will be the first all-new
MG to be produced at the MG Birmingham plant in 15 years. Full details
and prices of the MG6 will be announced nearer the launch date. During
the three day Goodwood Festival of Speed, from July 2-4, visitors will
be able to see both the MG TF and pre-production versions of the MG6 at
    the MG stand.

Ain’t no mountain high enough for a TF

    25.05.10

MG fan Art Jacks took this stunning shot of his TF on the Furka Pass near Andermatt in the Swiss Alps recently.
At 2,431metres or 7,976 ft the pass offers breathtaking scenery and was a location for mountain scenes in Goldfinger. But while dear old James Bond may have had trouble staying on the road, Art’s TF stuck to the road like glue and stormed up the road.
Art has been an enthusiastic MG owner for nine years – which seems to be the message in his personal number plate too!

Last time I took a car (not an MG) up there it was running out of oxygen by the top and was definitely not "storming up the road" ... and that car had a turbocharger!

Win a drive in an MG6 – top prize at MGLive!

    26.05.10

An exciting and exclusive drive in an MG6 – the first new MG in 15 years – is a major prize up for grabs at MG Live!
Two of the all-new MG6 five-door fastbacks will be at Silverstone for the event on June 4, 5 and 6. And one of the cars will be seen on the famous Grand Prix circuit after each of the club races, along with the latest TF.

Enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get up close and personal to an MG6 and the latest TF on MG Motor UK’s stand in the popular central display area at Silverstone which has been re-named the ‘MG6 Plaza’ for this year’s event.

If the MG6 is the first new MG in 15 years, the definition presumably excludes 3SW and 7 as well as 550 and 750, also ZR, ZS and ZT, TF, SV (?)... the 6 is an important car but it's a sweeping statement... is the MGF meant?

Summertime and buying an MG TF is easy

Post by richardk on Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:56 am

    http://www.mgmotor.co.uk/news-events/news/summertime-and-buying-an-mg-tf-is-easy/

Summertime and buying an MG TF is easy

    01.06.10

Sales of the iconic MG TF are booming and as the best value sports car on the road, it’s easy to see why.
Today a Birmingham-built TF 135 costs £13,799 on the road. Back in 2000 a similarly specified model would have been £19,735 – so the latest models are real inflation beaters.
And it’s a pure sports car offering exciting, fun driving; yet it’s surprisingly practical with an easy to use soft top so summer showers are no problem. The N-series 1.8-litre engine is hugely responsive with a 0-60 mph time of just 8.4 seconds while the road holding and driving dynamics of the mid-engined TF are legendary.
Designed, engineered and built in Britain, the TF comes off the track at MG Motor UK’s Birmingham plant eager to please – which is another reason why sales are up by 67 per cent this year.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that a sub-£14, 000 sports car must be pretty basic. The TF is comfortable and well-equipped with real attention to traditional sports car detail, such as the standard-fit solid alloy gear knob, alloy sports pedals and a twin two-tone air horn. In addition there is a modern high quality radio and CD player.
For a limited period, a 2010 Style Pack is available too with leather upholstery, silver interior highlights and eye-catching ‘Twist of Pepper’ boron finish alloy wheels, all for just £700, making a Style Pack TF £14,499 on the road. If you want metallic paint, MG throws that in too as a no-cost option. Beat that for value!
With the hood down on a nice sunny day the TF allows you to experience wind in the hair driving, while the engine sips fuel at a leisurely 35.8 mpg (combined figure).
And if the rain clouds gather, it takes just seconds to raise the hood which has an integrated heated rear glass screen.
The TF is all about fun, but not at the expensive of practicality. The boot was purpose-designed to take two sets of golf clubs and, being mid-engined, there is some additional storage space under the bonnet.
So the terrific TF offers a combination that no other car can – incredible value for money, economic driving, eye-catching design and a soft-top that is totally practical.
We challenge you to find any other car offering as much FUN for your money as the MG TF!

    Out of Africa

    04.06.10

When Martin Williamson left South Africa for the UK in the nineties, there was one reason he chose mainly to keep to himself. For of all the reasons one might choose to emigrate to another country, a love of and life long interest in the cars they produce might not be everyone’s idea of a sound reason to make a life changing decision!
Martin is one of a huge number of people that, if you cut them in half, has an Octagon running through them like a stick of Blackpool rock so just how did he end up driving a, whisper it, Mazda MX5?
‘I’m really not sure looking back on it.’ Martin confided when he visited us at Longbridge recently. ‘I loved my MG ZT and just wanted to keep it forever but eventually I had run it in to the ground and by that stage (2008) there simply wasn’t the opportunity to replace like with like and I ended up with a Mazda 5 and, to be fair, it proved to be a fairly decent car and obviously from there we built a relationship with the local dealer. As well as the family car, I was getting great use out of my MGB but eventually I decided that I couldn’t keep using it as an every day car – it might be fantastic but maybe not exactly refined enough for the long trips up to Scotland these days. We shopped around for a new fun car and looked at both the TF and the MX5 and whilst we loved the TF, we got seduced by a ‘Manager’s special’ MX5.
So, with the dastardly deal done, Martin tried to adjust to his new ‘marriage’ but after only a month it was clear that something just wasn’t quite clicking. ‘Although a lovely car in lots of ways, something just didn’t quite feel right and I was beginning to feel uncomfortable after longer journeys.’ We think that was the guilt Martin! ‘I kept thinking about the TF and after talking to my (actual) wife, we agreed that we should go and have another look.’
Not surprisingly the rest, as they say, is history. Martin said ‘We went to Graham Walker (of Chester, Click here for details) who offered us a very fair price for our car that enabled us to do a deal on this fantastic new TF and we are delighted that we went ahead and made the change so soon.’
So what is it about MG that meant Martin just couldn’t stay away? ‘I think it is that real feeling that MG as a brand is about so much more than just the cars – there is a real community element be that through the clubs, on line chatting or just the friendly wave when you pass another MG driver when you are going about your business – very few other brands have such a loyal base and it is so enjoyable to be a part of.’ Martin also enjoyed a sneak preview of the MG6 during his visit to Longbridge and was so impressed that we’ve heard a rumour suggesting an all out charm offensive is now underway to convince the ever patient Mrs Williamson that the Mazda 5 just has to be changed at the end of the year!
The moral of this story is clear – remember that before you think about cheating on MG, you’ll be sure to regret it and you might not have a real life partner who is as amiable as Mrs Williamson and allow you to correct your error so quickly!
We were delighted to meet Martin and get to hear about his story first hand. If you have an MG story that you think would be of interest to us, please click here and send us your comments.

MG fans vote new MG6 a hit

    14.06.10

A pre-production version of the MG6 sports fastback was the star attraction at the recent MGLive! event - a three-day celebration of the MG marque organised by the MG Car Club, staged at Silverstone race circuit.
More than 10,000 fans attended and were able to see a pre-production version of the five-door 1.8-litre turbocharged MG6 which will be launched later this year. A silver MG6 was centre-stage at the MG6 Plaza, where visitors were allowed to inspect it in detail, while a bright orange model acted as a Course Car and went round the world-famous Silverstone GP circuit after each race during the weekend event.
The MG6 is designed and engineered in Britain and will be built by MG Motor UK at its factory in Birmingham, which also builds the iconic MG TF sports car.
Guy Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at MG Motor UK, said: “We showed the new car to probably the most critical MG audience in the world – British MG fans – and there was a fantastic response.
“We are delighted with the very positive response of MG owners and fans. Their reaction is a further boost to the engineers and designers in Birmingham who have worked hard to make an MG for the 21st centaury while incorporating traditional features, such as great driving dynamics, which sets MGs apart.”
Work on updating the MG Birmingham factory in Longbridge, the company is on target for MG6 production to begin in a few months time.
The next public opportunity to see the MG6 will be at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed. As well as being on static display, pre-production models will take part in the festival’s Moving Motor Show on July 1. Invited guests will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and drive the MG6 on a special three-mile course, incorporating the famous hill run, at Goodwood House in West Sussex. The MG6 will also be on display during the Festival of Speed event (2-4 July).
The sight of an MG at Goodwood will bring back happy memories for Lord March, the man behind the revival of Goodwood as a key motoring venue in the UK. He said: “My grandfather, Freddie March, used to race MGs and it will be fantastic to see an all-new MG back on our roads. It will mark another historic link between Goodwood and one of the world’s most iconic brands.”

New European Design Centre for MG opens in UK

    16.06.10

MG cars of the future will be designed in the world’s newest automotive design centre in Birmingham.
The new MG Global Design Centre, which opened yesterday (June 15) is part of a multi-million investment in new technology at the 69-acre MG Birmingham site, which also houses the huge SAIC UK technical centre where nearly 300 leading engineers work.
These two centres of excellence are already designing and engineering a range of new MG models which will start to be launched in the UK from later this year.
Total investment of this phase of development at MG Birmingham, including new engine test bed facilities now being planned, amounts to almost £5-million.
MG Motor UK is owned by SAIC, the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, one of the largest automotive companies in the world.
The new Design Centre will provide a purpose-built studio for 20 designers and sits next to the SAIC Motors European Technical Centre (SMTC) at the heart of the MG Birmingham site.
Inside the Global Design Centre are advanced workstations with the most sophisticated computer-aided design (CAD) software. Designers have the ability to create designs – both interiors and exteriors – from the initial concept stage to ‘virtual cars’ through to full-size 3D images and clay models.
British MG Design Director, Tony Williams-Kenny, said: “This is a huge step forward for us. The advanced technology and dedicated team make us one of the most professional design studios in the world – we may not be the biggest, but we aim to be the best.
“We will be finalising all details of the new MG6 from this studio and it gives us superb tools and facilities to go further forward on projects such as the MG Zero concept and beyond.”
The Birmingham MG plant currently builds the iconic mid-engined TF sports car and is now gearing up for production of the sleek MG6 five-door sports fastback which will be launched at the end of this year.
MG Motor Sales and Marketing Director, Guy Jones, said: “The Global Design Studio and the SAIC UK Technical Centre are huge investments and show just how committed we are to the future of the historic MG brand.
“This is bringing manufacturing and highly-skilled engineering design back to the heartland of the Midlands. It’s a fantastic day for British industry, Birmingham and the proud name of MG.”

With just days to go it’s the countdown to the MG6 sports fastback - the first all-new MG in 15 years – to tackle Goodwood’s famous hill climb.
Invited guests will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and drive pre-production versions of the new car on a special three-mile course, incorporating the famous hill run, at Goodwood House in West Sussex.
The event, the Moving Motor Show on July 1, is part of the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed and will offer an exclusive preview of the exciting new MG6 sports fastback.
Powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, the five-door MG6 has been designed and engineered in Birmingham and will be built by MG Motor UK at the MG Birmingham plant.
MG Motor UK currently builds the MG TF sports car. It is sold through more than 40 MG dealerships across the UK and costs £13,799 on the road.
Full details and prices of the MG6 will be announced nearer the launch date.
During the three day Goodwood Festival of Speed, from July 2-4, visitors will be able to see both the MG TF and pre-production versions of the MG6 at the MG stand which is in the Motorshow Paddock close to the hill climb start line.
